If the game were to be Fighting/Side scrolling/ Smash Brother Brawl type, I would think that any way you want to make it would be good, but avoid button mashing. Cool-down would be nice. I find it no fun when a person can button mash an ultimate attack repeatedly.
For a Megaman Battle Network style game, you might want to include cool-down times for the actions, if the battles take place in a limited area of space, and also to give a sense of planning and stratagy.
For immersiveness, maybe have little areas of Tome to explore in between major plot-points and battles, and you can revisit older areas as you progress to reach hidden spots with treasure. Another way would be the Kingdom Hearts style of getting around, with 1 or more characters teaming up to achieve a goal, perform an attack, defend, or reach an area/item.
These are all my personal suggestions for gameplay. For character design, maybe have a bunch of basic skins that can have colors altered, accessories added or taken, and features modified.
In the end though, do what you feel is right.

I would be satisfied with just Alpha and the gang, and I absolutely agree with doing something similar to a "tales of" game, hmm "Tales of TOME" it sounds good to me.

I do enjoy the idea of an RPG styled indie title. There aren't a lot of those on the same spectrum of TOME's story and overall concept. I enjoy the series immensely and would love to see it because a full-game. You have a lot of opportunity here, but more than anything I'd love the game to stay true to the series it originates from. An MMORPG. Not saying that would be an easy task, but it's something I would thoroughly enjoy if it truly existed.

the think that you should think is the limits of crating you how carater beacause every one want to make their carater the most powerfull than the others

sorry for the bad englsh

I have actually been thinking of this long before this comment but if I am to spill thoughts I am to spill thoughts It just seems to be coincidence that that game would be TOME. My thoughts were that the game would use animations for movements and attacks. It would basically combine the "make your own character"/"character customization" feature you see in a lot of games with the elements of a "MS-paint" or other artistic drawing software/medium/graphics painting problems not computer generated parts already made by the programmers for the player to mix and match but like a flipbook animation to...well like this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=3d+dot+game+heroes+character+creation&oq=3d+dot+game+heroes&gs_l=youtube.1.4.0l10.22477.27559.0.34316.18.7.0.11.11.0.190.962.0j7.7.0...0.0...1ac.1.3EH1aNFLTIw">http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=3d +dot+game+heroes+character+creation&oq=3d+

As much as I'd like to see a custom-character maker, I think that it will be Extremely difficult to filter out inappropriate content, unless each submission was sent to be reviewed before it's accepted. One possibility for the character system would be like that of Drawn to Life, where players draw characters within preset boundaries.
As for the battle system, both the TOME and the TTA systems are great. However, there should be no "Bullet Spam" attack, as that would result in large amounts of lag on slower computers.

Doom upon me for saying this but not fully a MMO but more along the lines of 4 people being able to group up. Still overly ambitious i know but some form of multiplayer would make the game feel original. Otherwise in my opinion the game is going to be alienated from the series slightly.

A customizable character would be appreciated but using the original cast first is fine too. Updating with customization later would be a plus.

In battle, a Tales setup would be nice, preferably Phantasia if you want 2-D scroll fighting. Just don't have the damn auto run back to spot enabled. Optional I guess.

Anyways you have been given my opinion. If you wish to utterly destroy my opinion go on ahead for I am just a lowly fan. The game should be great either way you do it and I hope it comes together.

I pretty like TOME and if there was a game of it, it could be a flash fighting game which 2 players are fighting each other or a beat'em all adventure game which you control the 5 main characters of TOME (Alpha, Kirbopher, Nylocke, Flamegirl and Gamecrazed). The fighting game type would simply be like a Street Fighter game. I think you know what does a Street Fighter game looks like, heh? The beat'em all type would be a story of your main characters that is splited in different levels and there's levels with a character, levels with another, and so on. Cinematics with beautiful dialogs would be awesome, of course. Like in the story, characters will gain experience and levels, and with this, they would have access to upgrades. A menu of upgrades would allow them to improve their combos in strength and length, their special skills or abilities, their toughness and maybe more. There also would be 2 kinds of combos: the ground combos and theaerial combos. If you do a Tome beat'em all games, I could give you some ideas. :)

its a very great idea it should at least have a very large variety of weapons trinkets and armor
or at least a way to create your own moves and have a similar community system like in the game
and should have temporarily have eater eggs some come out and some go away each leading to new items or something else
you could make it like spiral knights
but make it so u have to whate 24 hours so its not a bother
and have special events and stuff

misspelled easter eggs

I think maybe teejay-number13's world of chaos series could inspire you.
it's mainly a story with some game elements inbedded. (only the latest episodes i think)
You could use a similar concept in TOME which would allow you to balance the story/game ratio as you see fit.

The "Tales of" games are a good choice as far as a gameplay base, but the smash brothers... hmm. Certain parts of the game could be turn-based RPG, just like in TOME, and you could make it about as long as the show if at all possible, but the customizable characters of TOME are one of its big appeals to be certain. It's a big project you have in mind, but it has potential to be quite the fun game! Good luck in this, and also... NYLOCK, DRAGON OF GIVING FEEDBACK!

If you were to make a game based on TOME, I imagine, like you said previously, the biggest aspect of your game would be able to make your own character. Unfortunately, I understand doing such a thing would be a tremendous task even for large game companies. However, I feel like such a thing would be possible if certain options and rules were available.

For example, having a spread sheet of X amount of different character types (Say, being a strong martial artist or a powerful ice mage, ect) and perhaps having a player choose two (or more) of them. These character types wouldn't have to have their own full set of abilities for people to choose from, but rather unique compatability with other types (Using the martial artist/ice mage example from earlier, you could have a character with like freezing punches, ect). I just like the idea of using a unique system that tailors to your creativity. It would work sorta like how Kirb is an elemental swordsman of types.

Anyway, hopefully my comment was useful (and if not, sorry for wasting your time). I was just tryin' to give my perception of how Tome would actually translate into a game, even if I didn't explain it that well.

please let it on consoles and uses tales of graces F or tales of xillia 2's graphics engine

GRID FIGHTING! TTA serious OTAKU NYLOCKE instead of Ridiculous NYLOCK, DRAGON OF DOING WHATEVER-eth! I have got to be the only one who likes him better. the old nylocke had serious character moments during the demonking fight. the new one beat him by accident. and he had a cooler nickname. less customizable nickname. but still cooler. In fact, why not make the whole thing the TOME from TTA? I certainly see the appeal of the but even though you added voices, it was impossible for you to improve perfection. anyway, I liked the sprite based grid battle, it made a pseudo comeback in the hand drawn stuff but it just wast the same! I think it should be full on in the game. Bring back TTA for the Terrain of magical expertise. but the customization suggestions are awesome, especially mattso's.

I think a MegaMan Battle Network-styled game would work the best for a game based off of TOME. Seeing the storytelling and characterization that goes on in TOME, I don't think leaving things up to the player is the best choice. I can imagine things working out quite well: you establish the players' character- their personality, their lifestyle, and their friends (most likely the crew from the show). Next would be a minor mishap which serves as a tutorial for battling. Then a few chores to help players become familiar with the areas of TOME. After that, it all follows a pattern: a problem comes up relating the enemy (in this case, the Hackers), you find where they're causing problems or where they're hiding, fight them as a boss battle for the "chapter", everything is well, and everyone signs off for the day. Wash, rinse, repeat until the finale where the heroes discover the base of the main villain, when you can then have whatever you want happen. Seriously, the finales to the Battle Networks are pretty over-the-top. Anyway, along the way to the ending of the game, you collect new and upgraded abilities, meet quirky people and do some silly sidequests. But most of all, you learn more about yourself, your friends, and the incentives behind the big boss and the ones who were loyal to him/her.

Well and rpg/ megaman battlenetwork styled game would be cool. where you can custom your own character or choose one of the people from the series

a create you own character would be great but it will probably be complicated to put into the game, so you should probably go with choosing between each of the main TOME characters. Let each character have their own storyline. and when the player (us, the wonderful fans) finishes all storylines, a Final Chapter will open. Kinda like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.
